Message from Executive Director Buddy Rizer:
As the Loudoun Innovation Challenge application deadline edges closer (submit yours before October 9 at midnight!), we are reminded of the ways that innovation benefits our region. Entrepreneurs are the driving force behind groundbreaking ideas, products, and services that push the boundaries of what’s #LoudounPossible. By investing in innovation, we are creating a more diverse and dynamic economy that can weather downturns and capitalize on new opportunities.
Presented by the Loudoun Economic Development Authority and Loudoun County Department of Economic Development, this year’s Loudoun Innovation Challenge has a new format that has evolved with the progression of technology. Presentations and judging have moved to a virtual format rather than in-person, allowing a more comprehensive review of the applications by esteemed judges. The Agri-tech category has been integrated into the other categories—Life Sciences Technology, Cyber and Defense, Highly Specialized Manufacturing, and Clean Technology—so that innovation in agriculture can be applied without boundaries. In addition to competing for a share of $70,000 in prize money, this year's eight finalists will gain entry into the six-week Growth Program from Startups Ignite at no cost.
Loudoun County goes beyond short-term gains. By taking an economic approach that prioritizes job creation, local investment, and long-term prosperity, we create a pro-entrepreneurial culture of creativity that rewards the risk-takers who work to benefit the community. Supporting innovation is about more than just the success of today’s businesses; it’s about crafting a future where opportunity and growth are available to all.
